Walking is one of the best ways to keep body and mind in good health. It’s easy to do, it doesn’t need special skills or equipment, it can be done anywhere and any time. Plus: if you walk in a group you meet new people and have a chance for a good “blether”.

Ideally we would all walk for 30 minutes most days, but many of us can’t quite manage this much – yet we would like to be more active. Ageing Well, a project run by Edinburgh Leisure and funded by NHS Lothian, recognises that, so they are starting a scheme to help folk with the amount of walking they can do. This will run every Monday and Thursday morning starting from 20th April. Just come along to Summerhall (what used to be the ‘Dick Vet’ college beside the Meadows:  meet at the front door) on any of those days for a 10.30am start. It’s free, it’s open to everyone over 50, and there will be qualified walk leaders to guide your every step.
