Scotmid flats plan, Leven Street
Scot-mid are looking to develop space above the Scot-mid on Leven Street into flats.
The application can found on the planning portal here.
Whilst we need more housing in the city, this is likely to be not aim at affordable rents, and residents have already been in touch to talk about the look and feel of the development, the height of the development, and issues with buildings overshadowing the surrounding residential flats.
You can view the plans on the above link and have until 26 April to put in your objections or via the officer dealing with this planning; Astrid Walker on: astrid.walker@edinburgh.gov.uk
This Scotmid store was the first supermarket in Scotland and was purpose built in 1959.

What a massive improvement on what is currently there. The current frontage is an incongruous eyesore and this proposal looks like a much more acceptable and modest development utilising the underdeveloped airspace. As I understand it Scotmid has a large portfolio of long term let residential property in Edinburgh and this would add to the supply. Surely, a valuable addition in these times when more and more central properties are short term/Airbnb type lets.
Another student accommodation?! There’s no place to live for Edinburgh residents

Will the new new updated store still have Eastern European beggars with cups outside the entrance? I certainly hope not.
