Museum of Fire to move from Lauriston Place
After a long fought campaign to keep the Museum of Fire in its current Victorian Fire Station home has unfortunately failed. The building has been sold to the University of Edinburgh, and the Capitals Museum of Fire will be moving to a new home at McDonald Road, Leith – home to a new community hub for the Fire Service. See the Edinburgh Reporter article below from Friday for more information.

SFRS’s emphasis on the Museum of Fire’s “original” home is a cynical ploy to make out the service is doing something worthy. In fact, the most important exhibit of the Museum at its current site is the building itself, which retains many original features and is one of only two surviving Victorian purpose-built fire stations in THE WORLD – and one of the jewels in Edinburgh’s crown.
Shame on SFRS.
