Planning Issues for November
November Planning Report 2022
We have objected to STLs in our area if they have shared entrances and on shared stairs.
These are;
- 221 Webster’s Land
- 27 Castle Terrace
- 1F1, 14 Upper Grove Place
- Flat 2, 6 Castle Terrace
- Flat 1, 35 Gilmore Place
- Flat 11, 1B Grassmarket
- Flat 4, 14 High Riggs
- 2F2 2 Drumdryan Street
- 515 Webster’s land
- 18 1B Grassmarket
- 2F1 87 Bruntsfield Place
- Flat 29 29 Kings Stables Road
- 608 Webster’s Land
- 216 Webster’s Land
- Flat 1, 2 Ggardner’s Crescent
1, 5 and 8 have been refused and the others are pending.
There are many applications for STLs in the areas around us; Merchiston, Dalry, Old Town, West End, Marchmont and Southside. The Council seems to be regularly refusing applications on stairs.
The Council is drawing up new guidelines for STL applications but they are not yet in force. They make clear that applications on stairs are unlikely to be supported. All the current refusals are based on current rules and these refusals could well be appealed on the old rules. However appeals to date have not been very successful.
Other Applications
Decisions
- S1 have lodged an appeal to the Scottish Govt. of the refusal of the application to turn Tynecastle School into a large Student Residence.
- Refusal of change to short term let at 1A Cambridge Street.
- Application for fun fairs, Christmas market and ice rink were all approved on 10.10.2022. As last year, work was already underway before approval. The application for 5 years was cut to one year in the first instance.
- 8 flats at 140 Princes St. all granted approval for short term lets – there is a shared entrance and stairs.
