Fountainbridge FCI Meanwhile Project presents:
Spring Fling!
We will open our doors on Sunday the 17th of April for the day, with an amazing range of workshops, free taster sessions, walks and talks.
This is a brilliant chance to check out what’s going on at the Fountainbridge Meanwhile space. Including: The Forge – open access wood and metal workshops, The Grove Community Garden, The Edinburgh Scrapstore, and the Wikihouse – an exciting open source architectural project and events hub.
Come down and meet other local makers and doers, hear about the future of the space, and generally see what the Meanwhile Project is all about!
There will be representatives on hand from the Grove, Scrapstore, Wikihouse, Forge and Fountainbridege FCI, to answer any questions and give intro’s to the fantastic resources available on site.
Confirmed so far:
11am: David Garlovsky will be in the Wikihouse to give a talk on the story behind the blue jean insulation social enterprise in Sheffield.
11- 12pm: Introduction and wee tour of the Grove Community Garden with Wendy Lord.
11- 12pm: Find out the fascinating and rich industrial history that once dominated Fountainbridge with FCI history whizz Richard Allen.
From 12am: Join Matt for an introduction to welding in the metal workshop.
12 – 1pm Glass workshop demonstration: watch Agelos at work using glassblowing techniques to create jewelry.
1pm: Deconstruct and Reconstruct recycled glass as a form of artistic expression to create jewlery and decoration. A crossover between traditional leading technique combined with found glass objects. Celine Tressler.
2pm: Make your own sign for your house or door by carving and burning wood with Agelos Papadakis.
1pm: Two part botanical workshop: Go for a walk along the canal and discover the wild flowers that grow there. then choose some to print for the next workshop. Meet Anna outside the Wikihouse for a 1pm start.
1pm: Bring your bike along and learn how to fix punctures, check brakes and general bicycle maintenance with Alasdair and Jasper.
1pm: Have a go at whittling in the Forge workshop with Lotte.
1-3pm Spring on your windowsill! Planting up window boxes/hanging baskets of herbs or seeds for Spring with members of the Grove community Garden.
2pm: Help beautify the Wikihouse by making a mosaic for the outside walls.
2-3pm Wild plant cyanotype printing in the Wikihouse with Anna Canning from Floramedica.
