A planning application for 5 boats to be used as short term lets on the canal side has been lodged with Edinburgh Council.

The Botels will cater for short term lets and already the Community of residential boat owners have been in touch about issues surrounding short terms lets bringing extra pressure on the local community. The full plans are available online (details below); but this image will give you the size of one canal boat where 5 are planned for short term lets – this just the first group of a planned 12 boats!!

Our objections to this development are many fold but include:

  • Over provision of hotel and short term accommodation.
  • Uses on the canal.
  • The Demography of the area and the Fountainbridge Development Brief.

One twitter user @nataliemclachl2 has pointed out the development will add 5 boats to the 8 already planned.

The pdf below gives Scottish Canals overview of how they want to make the most money out of moorings along the Edinburgh City part of the canal.
